GUIDELINES

Dear Student Support Applicant:

Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting your application to participate in the Charlotte Mangum Student Support Program for the upcoming Annual Meeting. In order to be eligible for Student Support you must fulfill all of the following:
  • Be a student member of SICB for 2025/2026. (2025 Membership year is 07/01/2025 to 06/30/2026)
  • Be the presenting author (i.e., have submitted an abstract for the 2026 Annual Meeting). Only one person per abstract (the presenting author) may apply/receive program support.
  • Plan to attend the upcoming SICB Annual Meeting. (Housing Support applicants should register now. Registration Support applicants should wait to register until a special code is sent by Raelene Sok, 3-4 weeks after the Mangum Award application deadline.)
  • Complete the application form in its entirety before the deadline (October 15, 2025).
  • Provide name and email address of your faculty advisor; and,
  • Provide up to one-half day of assistance to SICB during the Annual Meeting.
There is a 3-year limit of participation in this program. You may only receive support for three years.

The Charlotte Mangum Student Support Program awards financial support in the form of assistance with either housing or registration fees. Students who are granted support will be notified by email within 4 weeks after the October 15, 2025 deadline. There is a 3-year limit of participation in this program.

In the event that there are more applicants than volunteer spots then the support program positions will be offered in the order that the applications are received.

Registration Support: Do not register on your own without the special code. If you register after you have applied for the student support program and you do not use the code a $20 fee will be deducted from your refund. A special code will be sent to you after the Mangum Award application deadline. Registration support for 2026 SICB is a reduction in the fee by $125 - you will receive a code making your registration fee $65. Your abstract will not be canceled if you “miss” the registration date and you also will not miss any early-fee pricing. Applying to the Mangum Program is a placeholder for you so neither your poster or talk will be canceled. Ignore the Nov. 5 Presenter Deadline and the Dec. 3 Early Fee Deadline. If you have already registered you may still apply for Mangum support but email Raelene Sok at sicbstudents@sicb.org ASAP.

Housing Support: DO NOT MAKE A HOTEL RESERVATION until you receive the specific Mangum Program hotel reservation link.

Start looking for roommates now. SICB does not match roommates. It is preferred* that only Charlotte Mangum student support program awardees are housed in our room block.
*we understand this may not always be possible - more info will be sent about this after you are accepted into the support program.

Housing Fees
note: “copay” is not per night, it is once for the entire stay

4 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $95
3 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $125
2 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $250
1 Mangum awardee per room: student’s copay will be $500

Again, if you apply for the Mangum housing support, you will need to reserve your room using a special hotel link that we will send to you. DO NOT reserve your room on your own. You must use the link sent to you. When using the special link you will be asked for a credit card to hold the room but your credit card will not be charged at reservation. (Link will be included within the award notification email after the application deadline.) SICB will only pay for Mangum housing for those who use the specific housing link.

The housing award covers five (5) nights (January 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, 2026) during the Annual Meeting. Early arrivals and/or late departures are at the individual's own expense at the SICB Annual Meeting room rates. ANY DAMAGE TO THE ROOM WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT.

If you are granted support of any type through the Charlotte Mangum Student Support Program you are obligated to provide the equivalent of one-half day of assistance during the meeting; failure to fulfill your obligation will cause immediate cancellation of your support and notification sent to your academic advisor/sponsor.

All student support recipients must attend an in-person training meeting prior to the annual meeting. Training meeting: January 3, 2026, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Room: TBA at the Portland Convention Center. If your travel plans conflict please email Raelene Sok at sicbstudents@sicb.org.

The application form requires you to be a current SICB student member. Please sign in below.
