Meeting Cancellation

It is with deep regret that we are informing you of the cancellation of the 2020 JMIH July Meeting in Norfolk, VA. JMIH leadership has been monitoring the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) constantly. The decision to cancel was based on the latest scientific data being reported, and the fact that a large number of attendees at this meeting are coming from outside the US, including countries where the CDC upgraded its warning to level 3.

This decision was made out of deep concern for the health and well-being of our registrants, staff, vendors, and the Norfolk community.

Dear JMIH Meeting Registrants,
As promised, the MMPC continues to monitor the spread and virulence of COVID-19. So many of our colleagues, friends, and family members find it difficult to navigate through the data provided from varied sources and even more difficult to weigh very real constraints and priorities with the need to stay safe and healthy. JMIH is no different. Balancing the needs, desires, and range of opinions of our registrants with ethical and legal obligations and considerable financial concerns, at times feels overwhelming. We ask for your patience as we work our way through this. Our intent is to continue to evaluate our options, to find solutions to the financial, professional and personal issues we face, and to communicate openly. The Society President’s will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss this.

Thanks so much for your patience and support.

The Meeting Management and Planning Committee of the JMIH is closely monitoring reported COVID-19 outbreaks, epidemiological and pathophysiological projections, CDC guidelines, and US government travel restrictions in an effort to ensure that decisions, which might impact our upcoming 2020 Joint Annual Meeting in Norfolk, VA, are timely and in the best interests of our members, registrants, attendees, and JMIH.

JMIH is working with the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside to stay on top of this. Both hotels are following guidelines of global and local health authorities and taking relevant health and safety measures.
