FIELD TRIP #1

Tour of the Poplar Island Environmental Restoration Site (boat launch from Tilghman Maryland)

MONDAY, JULY 27, 2020
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Cost: $159 [transportation and box lunch]

Participate in a guided tour of the Poplar Island Environmental Restoration Project. Begun in 2001, the Poplar Island Project has become an international model for the beneficial use of dredged material. The island, which had been the home of more than 100 residents in the early 1900s, suffered from erosion such that by the 1990s only clusters of islets remained. Through the use of dredged material, the island is now home to abundant wildlife and offers unique habitats for terrestrial and estuarine animals and plants. During this unique experience, you will be able to tour the island with a particular emphasis on Diamondback Terrapin habitat and restoration. Cost of this field trip includes round trip transportation (Norfolk, Virginia to Tilghman, Maryland, and boat service to the island) and a box lunch.

Field trip leaves from the Marriott Lobby.
