Building your professional network is critical to success in academia but can be intimidating without the right knowledge or support. Panelists will share their tips for breaking into new groups in the social insect research world. Following the panel, moderated break out rooms will provide opportunities for attendees to discuss what they've learned, practice new tools, and begin building their social networks. This panel is a collaboration between EntoPOC and the IUSSI planning committee; all students are welcome to attend.

IUSSI Mentor-Mentee Matchup
Make new connections at IUSSI! This could be a good opportunity for anyone newly attending the conference, or individuals that are the only lab member. After signing up, mentees will indicate what they want out of the mentorship (e.g. career guidance, guidance based on shared experiences or identities, research advice, networking connections). Mentors will indicate their strengths and interests in mentoring. This will be a good opportunity for anyone (mentor or mentee) that is looking to make connections outside of their network.

Meet the people behind the usernames at the IUSSI social media meet up! This is a casual gathering for social insect Tweeters and other social media users (or just those interested!). We’ll be gathering at the north poolside area of the conference hotel. Stop by any time to connect with some amazing folks. EntoPOC-IUSSI grant writing workshop

Interested in applying for scientific grants or fellowships, but don't know how to get started? This workshop will introduce basic tips and tools for grant writing success! In addition, students (undergraduate and graduate) will be provided with information about many of the big fellowship programs, as well as places where they might find lists of smaller grants to fund their work. This workshop is a collaboration between EntoPOC and the IUSSI planning committee; all students are welcome to attend.
